Achieve, Heal and Discover Issue #6

A biweekly newsletter to help you achieve, heal and discover in ways that improve your life and relationships.

Achieve: Work with your LOW energy

As much as you need to "sit down and write that email" your low energy may make this task an uphill battle.

Here is my secret to productivity: I learn to follow my energy.

To do this I've borken down all of my projects into tasks. Then I associated each task with an energy level.

For example: Here are the kinds of tasks I focus on when my energy is low:

  • Brain dump new ideas with no judgement
  • Complete task done that do not require thinking or feeling
  • Archive old projects
  • Journal my thoughts

I created an entire flow chart on how I follow my energy. It's all yours here: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_l10IaUU=/?invite_link_id=443240518731

Heal: How to Rest

Most of us do not need more self-care, instead we need REST!

Here is the struggle- in order to actually rest you have to let go of control. You have to believe that in this exact moment, you have done enough, for now.

Here are 3 words that will get you there:

Acceptance

Accept the reality you are in. The chaos isn't going anywhere right now. Can you just be present in this moment?

Change

Stop the thing that is exhausting you and change to focus on something else. Replace your work with a different kind of work.

Surrender

"Sometimes surrender means giving up trying to understand and becoming comfortable with not knowing" – Eckhart Tolle

I'll be talking alot more about rest in the near future. Stay tuned.

Discover: Parents are not happy

The early research is decisive. Having kids is bad for quality of life.

One study found that parents experieced a decrease in happiness that doesn't go away for a long time.

Here is the catch:

It isn't the children themselves but what it cost to raise them.

The collective experience of attachment, memories and love supersede the overall decrease in quality of life and adds a sense of meaning.

Happiness is temporary.

Meaning can be handed down to genereations.

Hey Reader, This isn’t one of those big dramatic announcements. No changes from what you have come to expect from me but for me this intentional move is huge. That’s what’s happening with this newsletter. I’m moving it from my previous email client (Kit) to Substack. Why? A few reasons. Substack is becoming a place where more and more of the kinds of thoughtful conversations I care about are happening. It’s built for community, and it gives me more room to experiment—more flexibility to play...
